BASP #4 - Coyote Point

Sunday was the final BASP Race, at Coyote Point, and I went out for what would also be my final category c race for my cyclocross racing career.

I had two options, go out and try to pick off positions for another podium (top 5), or the other option which kept coming to the forefront of my imagination; lead a lap.

So the start of the race began at the foot of a climb, this geographic feature seemed to me to present an obvious decision for my predicament. At the whistle we took off from the start and I found myself experiencing my first great start of the season. Into the bend, I was between two other riders and I decided to make it a sprint and drop everyone up the hill.

It worked! i spent the first lap leading my first ever cyclocross race. I started to fade a bit, lap after lap a few racers would get by. I finished the race in 9th place.  not much else to say, other than it was somewhat bittersweet but ultimately I’m stoked.

I managed to score a podium at the previous BASP round at Golden Gate Park, and now I can say I lead a race this season. BASP decided not to keep points this season for category c, so I kept my own. I ended the season in 3rd place, a huge improvement over the 45th place or what have you from last season. Now a few more races and then months of training to prepare for next year and hopefully a position on a team!
